Master first-generation Zimbabwean sculptor Henry Munyaradzi, the most sought-after name in the Shona sculpture movement

Henry Munyaradzi

Sculptor

This lovely sculpture is an quintessential example of the work of the late great Henry Munyaradzi. As is typical of so many of Henry’s delightful sculptures, this piece captures its subject in just a few simple lines – in this case, the head of a nun wearing a wimple.

Henry is the most sought-after and collectable name of the ‘first generation’ of artists from the Shona sculpture movement from Zimbabwe. Therefore, this lovely little piece gives a budding collector a great opportunity to acquire a super example of Henry’s early work.

Guruve is offering The Nun for sale on behalf of a private collector who acquired it in 2012, from a gallery in Zimbabwe. The original gallery label is still visible on the side of the sculpture. This particular sculpture had been part of the gallery’s Permanent Collection for many years. A certificate of authenticity from the Harare gallery with its identifying number (and also one from Guruve) accompany the piece. Henry has signed it on the base.

Beware of less scrupulous galleries than ourselves selling non-authentic ‘Henrys’. Detailed provenance gives the collector great piece of mind when investing in major artworks, and this piece is well supported.

This sculpture is in the UK and will be shipped from there;
P&P at buyer’s expense.

Imperial measurements are:
