We loved ‘Princess’ for her exquisitely sculpted facial details and the elegant fluid form of the bust.

Lovemore Bonjisi makes a welcome return to Guruve’s gallery in 2019, and this piece is a super example of his very collectable work.

The face has been sculpted, sanded and then given a wet-look through the addition of clear wax. The braids of the hair have been shaped with a chisel, and then sanded with rough sandpaper.

The rough surface of the hair (see photos of right side and back) shows how the stone looks before it is sculpted. It is a common feature in Zimbabwean sculpture to leave some portion of the stone sculpture unworked, to remind the viewer where the piece has come from.

Springstone is the local name for a hard variety of serpentine stone. ‘Green springstone’ is a dark green colour. The mine is owned by famous ‘second generation’ Zimbabwean artist Dominic Benhura.

This piece is in the UK and will be shipped from there; P&P at buyer’s expense.
