Guruve is advertising this lovely Nicholas Mukomberanwa sculpture for sale on behalf of a private collector.

The current owner acquired this piece when he was working in Zimbabwe in the period 1983-1986. He and his wife bought the piece directly from the artist. He says:

“…my wife and I were good friends to Henry [Munyaradzi] and Nicholas, we visited their farms frequently and they our home likewise and we had always a good time together.”

This exceptional piece has been cherished for many years and is in super condition. Nicholas’ signature is clearly visible in the photographs.

The late great Nicholas Mukomberanwa is one of the most respected and sought-after names in the Shona sculpture art movement.

Since his works rarely come on to the open market, this is a great opportunity to acquire a quintessential work.

This particular piece dates to the mid-1980s and shows a strong cubist influence. Nicholas travelled to Paris and spent time in dialogue with Picasso – apparently they got on very well and had fruitful discussions. This piece is part of the body of work that Nicholas produced afterwards. It’s probably his most sought-after period, where his sculptures fuse his previous stylised approach with elements of cubist abstraction. Lovely!

This piece is in Sweden and will be shipped from there; P&P is at buyer’s expense.
