With the spear, the painting is 1.03m wide. The spear is detachable.

“When you come to the house to visit, she has gone out. The door stands open revealing the empty interior…when you come looking for her she is never there.”

A continuation of Touray’s ‘Invisible Women’ series of abstract paintings exploring the position of women in Gambian society. He uses domestic utensils as symbols of women in their absence.

The women are the busy home-makers and providers in Gambian society. They never seem to rest. Sound familiar?
