“The piece reflects two generations (the circles), the young and the old. The old are underneath, because they came first. They are supporting the younger generation and sharing their knowledge and experience.”

There is a very satisfying symmetry and balance to this sculpture. An exceptional piece from one of Guruve’s most popular sculptors – and this fantastic stone has a huge wow factor!

Red jasper is a semi-precious gemstone that is finding increasing favour among Zimbabwean sculptors. All colour and texture within the stone is entirely natural. A layer of clear wax, polished to a shine, enhances the natural colour of this beautiful stone.

Since red jasper is so extremely hard, it needs electric tools to be worked, as it can’t be done by hand. This makes it difficult and expensive to sculpt, but the end result is absolutely extraordinary. This sculpture is the first time Nesbert has experimented with red jasper.

Inclusions of white quartz and other minerals form veins within the red jasper. They don’t affect the internal strength of the stone and it is fine for outdoor display in any climate.
