Protected Young Bird

Springstone (Serpentine)

The little baby bird shelters in under the protection of its parents; the hemispherical shape of the bottom half of the piece represents the nest.

So simple and elegant, this is such an eye-catching sculpture. An exceptional piece from one of Guruve’s most popular sculptors.

Nesbert has stripped the sculpture back to the bare minimum needed to capture the essence of the birds. In his typical minimalist style, each bird is shown by the point representing the beak with the necks craning upwards, and their bodies shared below.

In addition, on a practical note, this sculpture has a low centre of gravity and stands beautifully.

Springstone has a uniform internal structure: it is dense and hard, with small grains and very few flaws. Therefore, this variety of serpentine stone is a perfect sculpture medium. This is particularly true for technically challenging works such as this, where the artist removes much of the stone and leaves a delicate shape.

The veins in the stone are entirely natural; they are not cracks or lines of weakness.

This sculpture has very delicate parts. Therefore, in addition to our high quality crating and packing, it will need special freight services. Do contact us and discuss, if you will need it shipped to you.
