When the seed fell to the ground, it landed in rich soil. As it grew, it has had no limitations, water and food were abundant, everything in its life is easy. Accordingly, it has grown huge and the proliferation of leaves and flowers shows its joy in the good life it has experienced.
Onias expresses here, through the metaphor of nature, how the potential inside any of us can be realised to blossom if only we are free of obstacles and obstructions in our lives.
The 2008 National Arts Merit Awards winner for sculpture is on top form with this stunning sculpture. It’s elegant and powerful, and would make a perfect garden centrepiece, particularly given its floral theme.
Springstone is the local name for a hard variety of serpentine stone. ‘Green springstone’ is black with a green tinge and it comes from Tengenenge in the Great Dyke serpentine formation in northern Zimbabwe. It’s impermeable and suitable for outdoor display, although we would suggest covering the piece during exceptionally cold weather for peace of mind as some parts of the sculpture are quite thin.
