Cocking its head to see its prey better, the young stork is ready to strike. Beetles, watch out!

This sculpture is striking in its simplicity, combining sweeping lines with restrained finishing. It would be perfect as a focal point for a small garden, or by a pond perhaps, as it looks elegant from all angles.

Peter has used a number of sculpting techniques to create the various contrasting finishes on this lovely sculpture. He achieves the brushed effect of the feathers by stroking the stone with a blunt rasp. To create the shiny parts, he sands the stone smooth, then heats it and applies clear wax.

Springstone is the local name for a very hard variety of serpentine stone. It is suitable for outdoor display, as it is dense and impermeable and has very few flaws that might be exacerbated by frost action.

[Please note that the granite slab in photo is not included. However, we do have some circular slabs in sparkly black or pale grey available for sale – please enquire if you’re interested.]
