This charming sculpture shows a fledgling at its mother’s feet, supported and protected by her. She gazes down adoringly at her offspring. Under her protection, the chick is growing well.

Sculptures of this size are very versatile and work equally well indoors or out. In fact, you could display it outside during summer and then bring it inside for winter, when you are indoors much more anyway.

Springstone is a hard variety of serpentine stone. It is dense and impermeable and has very few flaws, which makes it a fantastic sculpture medium.

This variety of springstone, with a speckling of paler crystals, comes from the Impinge pass through the Great Dyke in northern Zimbabwe. It doesn’t shine to quite such a high gloss as other types of springstone.
