“The mother looks down, trying to gather her offspring as the day begins and they leave the nest.”
Peter Chidzonga is a Zimbabwean artist well known for his sculptures of birds. Here, in an interesting departure from his usual precise style, Peter has created a more abstract bird form. Gone are the sharp contrasting textures and beady eyes; instead, we have simplicity and elegant sophistication.
Moreover, this striking sculpture is super value. It’s a perfect centrepiece for a small garden, especially by a pond or water feature.
Springstone is a hard variety of serpentine stone with very few flaws, and is therefore an excellent sculpture medium. The stone in its natural form is a pale charcoal grey. Through the sculpture process, when an artist sands, heats, waxes and polishes the springstone, it turns a shiny black. The green and brown veins in the stone are entirely natural; they are not cracks or lines of weakness.
The base of sculpture is already drilled, ready for installation, and we can supply a suitable pin.
