The bigger figure at the back is the man, the smaller one in front is the woman. They are dancing together – their bodies lean across each other; the movement at the top of the sculpture follows their arms as they move through the air.
This stunning sculpture is one of the outstanding pieces from our purchases in Zimbabwe this year. A really substantial work from Peter: truly a masterpiece. It has height, width and presence, it is elegant yet substantial, and it would make a super centrepiece for a garden or courtyard, particularly given the truly 360° nature of the sculpture. Wonderful!
Peter creates complex and technically challenging abstract sculpture that flow with a fluid simplicity. Amazingly, Peter creates each one of his sculptures from a single solid raw stone. He says,
“The stone gives you the shape. You have to ‘run away from’ the flaws, it gives it a strong shape. Then you come with the vision to give [the piece] a story [explanation].”
Springstone is a hard variety of serpentine stone. It is dense and impermeable with very few flaws that might be vulnerable to frost action. Therefore, it is suitable for outdoor display.
The piece is in the UK and will be shipped from there (for international clients); P&P at buyer’s expense.
