“You know they are sisters, because they are dancing in the same style. They are sharing a happy moment together.”
The active movement that Peter has managed to imbue the stone with reflects their joyful vigorous dancing.
Peter has kept his work relatively simple here, keeping the form uncluttered and creating movement via the twists in the stone. Sculptures like this are examples of the very best of contemporary Zimbabwean sculpture – expressing ideas in a pared-down unfussy flowing form that is universally accessible and doesn’t need pages of explanatory notes.
Amazingly, Peter creates each one of his sculptures from a single solid raw stone.
Springstone is a hard variety of serpentine stone. It is dense and impermeable with very few flaws that might be vulnerable to frost action. Therefore, it is suitable for outdoor display.
The piece is in the UK and will be shipped from there (for international clients); P&P at buyer’s expense.
