The joy of a couple dancing together. The loops are their heads (man at the top, the woman below) and the twists are the movement their bodies trace in the dance.
Peter’s work is a combination of complexity and simplicity. He manages to create a twisting, twirling movement while keeping the finishing very clean. The result is an intriguing sculpture combined with great technical ability. He is one of Guruve’s most popular artists.
Amazingly, Peter creates each one of his sculptures from a single solid raw stone. He says,
“The stone gives you the shape. You have to ‘run away from’ the flaws, it gives it a strong shape. Then you come with the vision to give [the piece] a story [explanation].”
Springstone is a hard variety of serpentine stone. It is dense and impermeable with very few flaws that might be exacerbated by frost action. Therefore, it is suitable for outdoor display.
