“All my best ideas come to me in my sleep.”
Newly-added artist Richard creates a lovely flowing waveform in continuous movement. An instantly attractive work by a talented young artist who we think is going places.
This is a one-off sculpture, signed by the artist and sculpted from a single solid piece of stone.
Springstone is a hard variety of serpentine stone. It is dense and uniform; as a result, it is perfect for sculpting. Especially so for pieces such as this, where the artist removes much of the stone to create ‘negative space’.
This variety, with a speckling of paler stone crystals, comes from the Impinge pass through the Great Dyke in northern Zimbabwe. The crystals are even harder than the rest of the stone, so they resist the sandpaper. As a result, the surface of this sculpture has a slightly textured feel that is lovely to touch.
