The girl greets her younger sibling when she returns home. In Zimbabwe (well, all of Africa), children are given far more freedom and responsibility at an early age than children in the ‘developed world’; it doesn’t seem to cause them any difficulties.

Springstone is the local name for a hard variety of serpentine stone. It is a particularly good sculpture medium, as it has a very even internal structure of small grains of rock; it is dense and has very few flaws. It is the favoured medium for Zimbabwe’s best sculptors.
