This is such a striking sculpture, full of swirling movement. Tendai took inspiration from the rolling form of an ocean wave as it breaks upon the shore. The top of the sculpture is the crest of the wave, where the wind catches it and creates a spray of water droplets.
As the photos demonstrate, this impressive abstract Shona stone sculpture would be a great garden focal point. Especially against a dark backdrop, like a yew hedge, the pale creamy stone will really stand out.
TIP: make even more of a statement by spotlighting it at night.
‘Butter jade’ is the local Zimbabwean name for this beautiful variety of stone, which comes from near Birchenough Bridge in southeastern Zimbabwe. Actually, it is not jade: possibly, it’s related to agate. It’s extremely hard stone; therefore, it’s suitable for outdoor display, even in temperate climates.
We have already drilled the base of sculpture, ready for installation, and we can supply a suitable pin.
