This is someone who is making a journey around the globe. The lines of the sculpture trace their journey back and forth across the equator.

There is a lovely simplicity to this pleasingly rounded abstract sculpture by one of our best young sculptors. Tanyanyiwa is a previous winner of the Bernard Matemera Foundation’s ‘Artist Of The Year’ prize.

The simplicity of the work encapsulates the best of contemporary Zimbabwean sculpture, but also allows the beauty of the stone itself to come to the fore.

‘Cobalt stone’ is the local Zimbabwean name for a type of serpentine; this lovely pale green and pink variety comes from the area around the town of Guruve in northern Zimbabwe.
