Feeding My Chick

Springstone (Serpentine)

  • 50cm (h)
  • 26.5cm (w)
  • 27cm (d)

Shona artist Tonderai Sowa with one of his abstract sculptures

The top loop is the parent bird; the lower loop is the nest, containing the chick. The parent bird’s head is reaching down to the chick, to pass it an insect it has caught.

This is a fantastic medium-sized sculpture, great for a central interior position, with interest from every angle. Please email us if you’d like to see more photos.

Tonderai is one of Guruve’s most popular artists. He has established a reputation for combining great technical skill with fluid, uncluttered lines. His work represents some of the very best of contemporary Zimbabwean sculpture. As with all Tonderai’s sculptures, this piece has been carved by hand from a single piece of raw stone.

Springstone is the local name for a hard variety of serpentine stone that rarely has any flaws. Its even internal structure of small grains of rock means it’s a perfect medium for Tonderai’s technically challenging style.

This sculpture is in the UK and will be shipped from there; P&P at buyer’s expense.
