Shona artist Tonderai Sowa with one of his abstract sculptures

Down the centre of the sculpture, a strong line represent an elephant’s trunk. As soon as you see that, the loops on either side suddenly transform into ears!

This is a lovely small sculpture by one of the most exciting young artists working in Zimbabwe today, and is great value for money as an original and unique handmade sculpture.

Tonderai is one of Guruve’s most popular artists, and it’s easy to see why. It is almost inconceivable that such delicate and intricate work could be created by hand from a single piece of stone; yet, for all its complexity, the lines are light and clean and uncluttered.

This lovely sculpture is made from springstone, which is the local Zimbabwean name for a hard variety of black serpentine stone. Springstone has an even internal structure of small grains of rock, with the result that it rarely has any flaws. This makes it a perfect medium for Tonderai’s technically challenging style.

This sculpture is in the UK and will be shipped from there; P&P at buyer’s expense.
