Shona artist Tonderai Sowa with one of his abstract sculptures

Tonderai Sowa

Sculptor

The two loops represent two people working together for a common purpose, moving around each other. The centre space is the thing they are building.

Having taken part in international artist workshops, Tonderai is well aware that working with others has tangible benefits. The scale of your achievements is greater, and the breadth of your experience becomes wider.

This fantastic medium-sized sculpture is a wonderful example of Tonderai’s astonishingly intricate work, with interest from every angle.

As with all his artworks, Tonderai has carved this lovely sculpture from a single piece of raw stone.

Springstone is the local name for this hard type of serpentine stone. It has a dense, even internal structure of small grains of rock with very few flaws, and is the perfect medium for Tonderai’s technically challenging style.
