Shona artist Tonderai Sowa with one of his abstract sculptures

Tonderai Sowa

“The rain spirit that brings the rain at last, restoring life to the parched land.”

The spiralling movement represents the movement of the spirit. Little whirlwinds and eddies in the air are seen by Zimbabweans as the movements of the spirits, who are all around us.

Like many Zimbabwean artists, Tonderai lives a modern urban life. However, he still has strong ties with the rural family area (kumusha). Delve into the inspiration for much of his work, and you’ll find traditional Shona customs and spiritual beliefs.

This is a fantastic little sculpture, great for a central focal point in a small space, with interest from every angle. It’s also great value for money as an original and unique sculpture.

It would also make a super gift – an original work of art, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. In addition, we provide Tonderai’s biography (with a photo of him with Bringer Of Life). There’s also a brief history of the Shona sculpture movement.
