Avocado Serpentine

This sculpture represents a person – the top circle is their head, and the inner circle is their eye.

“They see what others cannot. Perhaps an idea, they can publicise it. Or an ability to consult with the spirit worlds, maybe foretell the future. This person can consider, things, can see cause and effect, and not rush into things. People trust their opinion, they become a natural leader.”

Willard was a new addition to Guruve’s gallery of Zimbabwean sculptors a couple of years ago, and we think his work is exceptional. This piece would make a real statement with a darkish background and clever use of a spotlight.

Unsurprisingly, this hard variety of serpentine stone has been named ‘avocado’ after its striking green and yellow colouration. It is suitable for outdoor display, since it is hard and impermeable like springstone.

The colours in the stone are entirely natural, merely enhanced by the application of a coat of clear wax. The lines you can see are part of the natural serpentine stone – they are not cracks or lines of weakness.

[Please note that the granite slab in the photo is not included. However, we do have some circular slabs in sparkly black or pale grey available for sale – please enquire if you’re interested.]
