Willard’s use of simple flowing lines keeps the sculpture feeling fluid and uncluttered, and allows the viewer to enjoy the elegant form of the piece and the incredible internal colour of the medium.
This is a new type of avocado serpentine, recently discovered, and has the most interesting and beautiful internal texture and colouration. The yellow-green serpentine is shot through with sprays of a clear hard crystalline substance, probably quartz or a related mineral.
Clear wax provides a ‘wet look’ coating that enhances the natural beauty of the stone.
It is suitable for outdoor display, since it is hard and impermeable like springstone. The lines you can see are part of the natural serpentine stone – they are not cracks or lines of weakness.
