Willard is saying that the path of life is never smooth. We will all face difficulties at some stage in our lives, and perhaps this unites us as human beings. Through the lines of this sculpture, Willard expresses the totality of ups and downs that someone living a full life would experience. Within its swirling circles, we see the joy of birth and love, the pain of death and loss, and everything in between.
This lovely sculpture is a very versatile height. At just under two feet tall, it would be a great statement piece in a light bright interior space. Equally, it’s big enough to be a centrepiece on a patio or in a flowerbed in a small garden. TIP display it on a tall narrow plinth so it hovers just about the plants, giving it the extra height needed to make a dramatic impact.
The bottle green colour of the stone works well with natural materials such as wood and sandstone, and also with popular interior colours such as grey and beige.
