“One person is giving another person a comforting hug.”
The sculpture shows two people embracing. The interlocking lines are their arms, they are hugging each other.
As with all Willard’s sculptures, this lovely piece with its fluid sweeping lines has been carved by hand from a single piece of raw stone.
The colours in the stone are entirely natural, merely enhanced by the application of a coat of clear wax.
Flower serpentine stone is so-named after its striking colouration, as bright and varied as a bunch of flowers. It is hard and impermeable, and is suitable for display either indoors or outdoors.
This particular type is a deep red, almost burgundy, colour and is criss-crossed with extraordinary veins of bottle green and yellow.
These are made of a different mineral, even harder than the serpentine; they have a crystalline structure, which gives them a fascinating texture that’s almost like crocodile skin.
