An adoring mother lifts her child into the air.
Such a charming work, with universal appeal – the proud parent doting on their offspring with delight. A fresh take on the ‘mother and child’ theme so often seen in Zimbabwean sculpture. Dominic has made tremendous use of the rough texture and interesting colour of the weathered surface for the raw stone; he’s cleverly created the dresses for both whilst also reminding the viewer of the qualities of the medium.
This sculpture is being offered for sale through Guruve by a private collector.
The seller acquired the work directly from Dominic at his studios in Greendale, a suburb of Harare, in 2018. Later on, in 2020, Dominic provided them with an official certificate of authenticity and this certificate will accompany the piece.
Springstone is the local name for this particular type of serpentine stone. It’s very popular with Zimbabwean sculptors, mainly because it has a uniform internal texture of tiny grains and is nice and hard. It’s impermeable and is therefore suitable for outdoor display, even in temperate climates.
This sculpture is in Harare, Zimbabwe. Please note: overseas shipping is from Zimbabwe as cargo to your nearest international airport or sea port; crating and freight at buyer’s expense. We would estimate international shipping cost at an additional $2,500.
Freight costs have risen markedly since COVID. As a rough guideline, we would advise you budget at least half as much again for the shipping costs.
You will need a clearing agent to do customs clearance for you, and to arrange onward haulage to your delivery address. This isn’t as complicated as it might sound, and using an agent is definitely better than trying to do it yourself.
