Michael has taken inspiration from the waves on the sea, creating a sculpture with fluid lines spiralling outwards. Additionally, the surface of the sculpture rises and falls like the surface of the sea.

He also said the bluish pastels colours of the stone itself, and the contour lines within the stone like tropical islands, brought the sea into his mind.

Michael’s work, with its wonderful combination of fluidity of line and simplicity of form, has impressed us hugely. Hopefully, with the exposure he achieves via Guruve, his career will progress in leaps and bounds.

Agate is an unusual medium for a Zimbabwean sculptor. It’s extremely hard, so it’s difficult and expensive to sculpt. However, it’s such lovely stone and the end result is so extraordinary, it’s worth all the expense and effort.

‘The Sea’ is signed by the artist and comes with a presentation folder including certificate and artist biography. There’s also a photograph of Michael with the piece. It is incredibly good value for a one-off work of art in such special stone.
