A chick, looking up to see if their mother is returning.

So simple and elegant, this is such an eye-catching sculpture. Nesbert’s confidence as a sculptor shines through in the simple yet dramatic lines.

This lovely small sculpture by Nesbert is an original work of art at a very affordable price. It is signed by the artist. It would make a lovely gift, especially for a bird lover.

‘Cobalt stone’ is the local Zimbabwean name for this lovely colourful type of serpentine. This variety is pale green and light pink, sometimes even verging on white. It comes from near the town of Guruve, in northern Zimbabwe.  It’s lovely, and not often used, which is a great shame. This year we made a particular request to Nesbert to seek out the stone, because we thought he’d enjoy it, and would make some really special pieces.

NB: It does not, as far as we know, contain any cobalt mineral – perhaps someone originally discovered it near a cobalt mine.

Imperial measurements are:
10 3/5″ x 9 2/5″ x 5 1/10″ and weight 18 3/4lbs
