Interestingly, many bird species form long term partnerships, just as humans do. Once they pair off, as these two have done, they perform dances together and touch beaks to reinforce the bond between them.
A very elegant pair of birds from Peter Chidzonga, with strikingly elegant and simple form, finished with his characteristic precision. Peter creates the brushed effect of the feathers by stroking the stone with a blunt rasp. To achieve the high gloss, he has sanded the raw stone smooth, then heated it and applied clear wax, then buffed it up to a shine.
Sculptures of this size are very versatile and work equally well indoors or out. In fact, you could display it outside during summer and then bring it inside for winter, when you are indoors much more anyway.
TIP: If the textured surface gets some greenery growing on it, you can easily wash this off with some water and a scrubbing brush. The sculpture itself won’t be affected.
