So many African children desperately want to go to school and learn, because they know their parents have struggled to find the school fees and because education opens the doors to opportunity. The desire of younger siblings to join in what their elder brothers and sisters are doing is universal though!
‘Domboshawa opal stone’ is the Zimbabwean name for this particular type of serpentine stone. It’s a creamy-white variety of what’s known as ‘common opal’ stone (which is a soft serpentine that’s pale green in colour). It comes from the Domboshawa area, just forty kilometres north of Harare.
Domboshawa opal stone is one of the softest stones we show; we do not recommend it for outdoor display as it is porous and could suffer frost damage. Displayed indoors, with dramatic spotlighting against a darker background, this lovely sculpture would really stand out.
