This charming sculpture is a great example of the work of Joseph Ndandarika, one of the most sought-after artists from the Shona sculpture art movement. He was not prolific, and his works rarely come on to the secondary market.
Most of Joseph’s pieces are inspired by traditional Shona society, and humility is a very important aspect of Shona culture.
Accordingly, when you approach someone your senior, you should kneel and fold your hands nicely and bow your head and wait to be addressed.
Guruve is advertising this piece for sale on behalf of a private collector who purchased it in 2023 from a well-known collection in South Africa. Although this piece has no historical paperwork, Guruve will provide a certificate. Joseph’s strong signature is clearly visible in the photos, with the year 1981, and Guruve has no doubt of its authenticity. Condition is excellent.
