Guruve is advertising this piece for sale on behalf of a private collector who purchased it in 2014 in Harare, Zimbabwe. The photos clearly show the artist’s signature and the original Chapungu Gallery reference number incised verso near the base. A Chapungu certificate accompanies the piece, in addition to the usual Guruve literature.
This lovely little sculpture is a great example of work by John Takawira, one of the best known names from the so-called ‘first generation’ of Zimbabwe’s Shona sculpture movement.
As such, she’d make a great entry level piece for a budding collector. Alternatively, she’d be a great gift for a lover of African art.
TIP: hold your cursor down on the image and drag it to spin the piece.
