Sculptor

“The two points within the stone are the birds and the circles represent harmony.”

Whilst the circles that form the main structure of the sculpture are easy to see, perhaps the two points are not so obvious. However, in the second photo, you can see the lines coming to a point at the top, so a bird’s head coming round from the left. In the third photo, there’s a second point – so the other bird’s head looks downwards, sweeping over the top on the back of the piece.

All in all, a lovely balanced harmonious piece (even if it does need a bit of detective work!) made even more interesting by Munyaradzi’s choice of stone. This is the first year Munyaradzi has tackled granite, which is notoriously hard, with great success. See also Wise Queen, created a few months earlier.

The lines are sharp and crisp, the surfaces smooth and lovely to stroke. The colour of stone is very appealing and the pale crystals within the stone give it a fascinating subtlety and depth.
