Tafadzwa Tandi

Sculptor

The interlocking ovals represent a handshake.

Tafadzwa’s abstract form is so striking – from a distance, it has a strong shape, and close up, the edges are crisp and precise. Additionally, Tafadzwa combines sweeping curves with intersecting geometric shapes to create a real individual style, which is something we always like to see.

A pleasingly simple sculptural form in beautiful semi-precious agate stone. There’s a lovely interplay between the translucent crystals and the swirls of opaque pastel clouds, dotted with islands of contrasting darker mineral.

Not many Zimbabwean artists use agate, because it’s extremely hard, so it’s difficult and expensive to sculpt. Also, it’s expensive to buy and, because it comes from Mozambique, there are significant transport costs as well. However, it’s such lovely stone and the end result is so extraordinary, it’s worth all the expense and effort.

Imperial measurements are:
14 3/5″ x 8 3/10″ x 5 9/10″ and weight 23.1lbs
