“They look so similar, they are identical twins. When you have twins you are considered fruitful, the mother is blessed.”
This is a quintessential ‘Chiwawa’ sculpture – a pair of ladies with their deep crescent brows, trademark double-ringed eyes and angular nose and mouth. It’s a lovely example of the work of Edward Chiwawa, who was one of Zimbabwe’s last remaining ‘first-generation’ sculptors until his death in October 2022.
Edward signed this piece on the base. Guruve bought this piece directly from Edward. It is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, Edward’s biography, and a photo of the artist with this piece.
Verdite is a semi-precious stone mined in Zimbabwe. This particular variety is known as ‘golden verdite’ as it’s less intensely green than standard verdite stone. It is very hard and is suitable for outdoor display in all climates.
