Shona artist Tonderai Sowa with one of his abstract sculptures

Tonderai Sowa

Sculptor

The swirls on the left-hand side represent the spirit talking. The right-hand side is the person who is listening; the lower loop shows they are kneeling to show their respect for their ancestor.

At just under a metre tall, this elegant fluid sculpture is a very versatile height. For instance, raising it up in a flowerbed, so it appears to float above the vegetation, would create a great centrepiece. Equally, placed on a lower plinth on a patio or in a large interior space, it would be a real statement piece.

TIP: whether indoors or outdoors, spotlighting it at night increases the drama!

Springstone is a hard variety of serpentine stone. It is dense and impermeable and has very few flaws that might be exacerbated by frost action. Therefore, it is suitable for outdoor display even in colder climates.
