Proud Woman is an extraordinary sculpture – the first sculpture world-famous artist Joe Mutasa has attempted in this stunning material. Joe created this sculpture at our special request, and said the stone was a real challenge to work with. This is a real one-off, a true first!
Red jasper is a semi-precious gemstone that is finding increasing favour among Zimbabwean sculptors. All colour and texture within the stone is entirely natural. A layer of clear wax, polished to a shine, enhances the natural colour of this beautiful stone.
Since red jasper is so extremely hard, it needs electric tools to be worked, as it can’t be done by hand. This makes it difficult and expensive to sculpt, but the end result is absolutely extraordinary. Inclusions of white quartz and other minerals form veins within the red jasper. It is fine for outdoor display in any climate.
