“A water droplet – the source of all life.”
In Zimbabwe’s semi-arid climate, where months can pass without rain, the fundamental nature of water is clear to all. Climate change has made the rainy seasons shorter and more erratic.
This elegant abstract sculpture is super value for an original work of art. Undoubtedly, all Guruve’s artworks are of the highest standard, whatever the size or budget.
Guruve are delighted to add Michael Gwaravaza to our select group of Zimbabwean artists this season. He joins his older brothers Tendai Gwaravaza and Timothy Gwaravaza, already part of the Guruve gallery ‘stable’.
Michael’s work, with its wonderful combination of fluidity of line and simplicity of form, has impressed us hugely. Hopefully, with the exposure he achieves via Guruve, his career will progress in leaps and bounds.
‘Cobalt stone’ is the local Zimbabwean name for this lovely colourful type of serpentine. This is the most common variety; typically, it’s a mixture of purple and pale green, though this piece is all pale. It comes from near the town of Chiweshe, north of Harare. It’s Lovemore Bonjisi’s favourite type of stone to work with.
NB: It does not, as far as we know, contain any cobalt mineral – perhaps someone originally discovered it near a cobalt mine.
Imperial measurements are:
